RELEGATED to the Cheshire League for the first time, Poynton’s quest to bounce back immediately got off to a perfect start with a comfortable win over hotly tipped Stockport Georgians.

Georgians’ scoring rate over their 45 overs scarcely rose above three per over as Poynton’s attack did a superb job.

Damian Stringer, back for another spell with the club, returned 3-45 in 18 overs. Hayden Bailey’s 85 completely dominated the Georgians card.

After initially retiring at the end of 2012, Brian Kingham expects to play the majority of matches this year, and it was just like old times as he walked out to open with Paul Gould. Kingham made 16 in an opening stand of 25, then Gould added another 63 with Adam Williams.

Gould departed for 43, one of the victims of James Locke in his spell of 2-21 in 12 overs, but Williams remained steadfast to the end, recording an unbeaten 52.
