Campaigners in NHS protest
NHS campaigners handed election candidates a petition with 2,400 signatures to protect the health service.
Thousands of members of online campaign group 38 Degrees descended on high streets around the country at the weekend to ask people to sign their ‘Save our NHS’ petition.
In Macclesfield, a team of 38 Degrees members collected signatures from people in the town centre.
It was their second day of campaigning and they collected 2,400 signatures.
The members invited the five Parliamentary candidates to meet them at Macclesfield Town Hall and receive a copy of the petition.
Labour’s Tim Roca and Joan Plimmer, from the Green Party, attended.
Jim Dale, from the campaign group, said: “Our NHS is precious and we’re standing up to protect it.
“We don’t private companies coming in and wrecking the system.
“We wanted to take the message to the candidates in Macclesfield and ask them to support the NHS if they get elected.
“It’s not the politicians’ NHS, it’s the people’s NHS.”
There are 58 members of 38 Degrees in Macclesfield.
