Cam­paign­ers in NHS protest

NHS cam­paign­ers handed elec­tion can­di­dates a pe­ti­tion with 2,400 signatures to pro­tect the health ser­vice.

Thou­sands of mem­bers of on­line cam­paign group 38 De­grees de­scended on high streets around the coun­try at the week­end to ask peo­ple to sign their ‘Save our NHS’ pe­ti­tion.

In Macclesfield, a team of 38 De­grees mem­bers col­lected signatures from peo­ple in the town cen­tre.

It was their sec­ond day of cam­paign­ing and they col­lected 2,400 signatures.

The mem­bers in­vited the five Par­lia­men­tary can­di­dates to meet them at Macclesfield Town Hall and re­ceive a copy of the pe­ti­tion.

Labour’s Tim Roca and Joan Plimmer, from the Green Party, at­tended.

Jim Dale, from the cam­paign group, said: “Our NHS is pre­cious and we’re stand­ing up to pro­tect it.

“We don’t pri­vate com­pa­nies com­ing in and wreck­ing the sys­tem.

“We wanted to take the mes­sage to the can­di­dates in Macclesfield and ask them to sup­port the NHS if they get elected.

“It’s not the politi­cians’ NHS, it’s the peo­ple’s NHS.”

There are 58 mem­bers of 38 De­grees in Macclesfield.
