New buyers sought for paper factory
AFTER a Macclesfield paper factory was shut alongside 13 other sites, the parent company’s administrators are now looking for potential buyers.
PaperlinX, an international paper company, announced large parts of its UK business were going into administration on April 1.
As a result, the Macclesfield site on Charter Way was shut resulting in the loss of 41 jobs.
Across the UK, up to 693 jobs might be lost.
Deloitte, the appointed administrator, said it was looking for buyers for parts or all of the business.
It confirmed there were discussions with parties interested in parts of the business but said these did not include the Macclesfield site.
As part of the administration process, it scheduled an online auction of all inventory from the Macclesfield site on May 11 to 13.
A total of 62 items is listed on the website of Hilco Industrial, an online auctioning service, but the auction might be called off, if Deloitte finds a buyer in time.
Matt Smith, joint administrator, said: “The industry has faced an increasingly challenging environment due to falling demand as digital communications have increased. We are investigating how best to maximise value in the businesses for the benefit of its creditors.”
