●● CHESHIRE Fire and Res­cue Ser­vice is ap­peal­ing for help to re­open its Fire Cadet Unit. Poyn­ton was the first firea sta­tion in the county to set up a cadet unit in 1992 but it had to be closed due to a short­age of lead­ers.

Fire chiefs are hop­ing to re-es­tab­lish it this year if new lead­ers can be found.

St Ge­orge’s Singers will sing with The Sh­effield Chorale, a trio of young soloists, and mu­si­cians from Stock­port Sym­phony Orches­tra.

They will per­form Ed­ward El­gar’s choral master­piece The Dream of Geron­tius in Gor­ton Monastery on Sun­day, June 21 at 7.30pm. El­gar’s com­po­si­tion was in­spired by a poem by Cardinal New­man.

The Town Coun­cil has en­gaged a con­trac­tor to carry out drainage im­prove­ment work at the Hock­ley Play Area off Hock­ley Road. The work is due to take place from Mon­day, April 27, to Fri­day, May 2. The play area will be closed for that pe­riod. ●● NET­WORK Rail will be re­cov­er­ing scrap rail track from Poyn­ton Sta­tion on Sun­day, May 3 ,from just af­ter mid­night to 8.30am.
