●● CHESHIRE Fire and Rescue Service is appealing for help to reopen its Fire Cadet Unit. Poynton was the first firea station in the county to set up a cadet unit in 1992 but it had to be closed due to a shortage of leaders.
Fire chiefs are hoping to re-establish it this year if new leaders can be found.

St George’s Singers will sing with The Sheffield Chorale, a trio of young soloists, and musicians from Stockport Symphony Orchestra.
They will perform Edward Elgar’s choral masterpiece The Dream of Gerontius in Gorton Monastery on Sunday, June 21 at 7.30pm. Elgar’s composition was inspired by a poem by Cardinal Newman.

The Town Council has engaged a contractor to carry out drainage improvement work at the Hockley Play Area off Hockley Road. The work is due to take place from Monday, April 27, to Friday, May 2. The play area will be closed for that period. ●● NETWORK Rail will be recovering scrap rail track from Poynton Station on Sunday, May 3 ,from just after midnight to 8.30am.
