POYNTON CC MARTIN SAXON ROMILEY ............... 120-9 POYNTON ............. 121-4
POYNTON bossed this match against their neighbours, and after defeating two of the hotly-tipped sides in the opening two weekends, they have every reason to feel optimistic about their hopes of bouncing straight back with a promotion.
Damian Stringer has returned to Poynton once again this season, and the experienced all rounder played a major role in this victory.
Jimmy Williams got Poynton off to a great start, with a superbly consistent spell of 2-13 in 11 overs. But Stringer again played the major role, recovering from a shaky start to take 4-47 in 17 overs. There was also a first wicket for the club for overseas player Nathan Baxter, thanks to an excellent catch from Jon Hadley.
Tom Rolph top scored for Romiley with a classy 46, dominating the scoring while he was at the crease.
Mark Flattley removed both Poynton openers in his opening spell, but Stringer got together with Chris Williams to take the game away from Romiley – rotating the strike well, which was possibly the main difference between the two teams. Williams made 29 and Stringer remained undefeated on 45 to bring home the points once again.
