Debut of promise for Ryan

- BOXING

MACCLESFIELD Boy’s Boxing Club travelled to Stockport recently as Ryan Jennings competed in his first bout.

His debut saw him take on hometown fighter Leo Price from Paramount ABC at the Mason Guild Hall.

This was a really evenly matched bout as both lads were novices and aged just 18-years-old.

They started tentatively as they both tried to get the measure of each other throwing single shots, with Price pushing forward and Jennings on the back foot.

The Macclesfield boxer looked a bit open as his corner shouted to cover up a bit and be first with his shots.

It was an entertaining first round, and in the second round Price looked more confident throwing some big right hands over the top.

Jennings was giving as much as he was getting though, but then out of nowhere he got caught with one of the overhand rights and was given a standing eight count.

Undeterred by the count, he carried on and finished well at the end of the round after coming back strongly against Price.

Round three saw Jennings take the edge as Price tired and Jennings was reading every shot coming back with good counters throughout and finished really strong.

That showing definitely saw him take the third round, with the judges then required to make their decision.

They awarded a close split decision to the home fighter Price, but both boxers did well and it was obviously a great learning experience for Jennings in his first bout.
