Couple open their garden
A COUPLE will open their garden to raise money for a church and celebrate its 175th anniversary.
Louise and Winston Hunter will open their garden at Acton House in Over Alderley to the public.
They have hosted open garden events before but this year will celebrate 175 years since St Catherine’s Church, Birtles was built.
They have teamed up with neighbour Muriel Lismonde who runs Tour de Belfort vineyard in France and will serve wine at the event in exchange for donations.
The Right Rev Libby Lane, the first Lady Bishop, is doing a short service at the church before and will then join Louise and Winston for tea in the garden.
Louise said: “Our event has a special purpose and interest this year, because it’s the 175th anniversary for the church.
“As we are opening a month earlier than previous years, this is an opportunity to see the garden in its spring colours, rather than the height of summer.”
The garden at Acton House, Hocker Lane, Over Alderley opens on Sunday, May 17, from 4pm to 8pm.
It will cost £5 which includes entry, tea or coffee and scones.
The service is at 3pm. Tour de Belfort will offer wine from 6-8pm for a donation.
