In­de­pen­dent hope­fuls lose out in clean sweep

THE Con­ser­va­tive party is cel­e­brat­ing a clean sweep in the Poyn­ton Town Coun­cil elec­tions.

Tory can­di­dates won ev­ery place on the coun­cil at the ex­pense of the North East Cheshire In­de­pen­dent and Green par­ties.

In Poyn­ton East ward Les Berry, Lau­rence Alan Clarke, Charles Arthur Gorst, Tim Hol­brook, Re­becca Ann Hors­man­John­son, Ge­off King, Howard Mur­ray, Jos Saun­ders and Mike Se­wart were elected.

They had been chal­lenged by a group of dis­af­fected for­mer Tory coun­cil­lors Ga­bor Bar­tos, Tony Hall, Bryan Lewis, and Roger West who had united as a group of in­de­pen­dents.

Their fail­ure to get elected was shared with Paul Ac­ton and his wife Gaynor Dyos-Ac­ton, who are on a quest to im­prove youth ser­vices in the town af­ter the sui­cide of their 16-year-old son Tom.

In Poyn­ton East ward Tories Michael John Bean­land, Alex Crop­per, Sarah-Jane Gil­more, An­drew Gor­don Hall, Ian Hollinworth, San­dra Fran­cis Hors­man, Tracey Lorde, Joan Mar­garet Se­wart, Gra­ham Frank Smith, Is­abel Clare Thorn­tonMad­docks and Nicky Wylie all won places. Greens Alex Crop­per and An­drew Gor­don Hall miss out.
