Re­mand on rob­bery charge

A MAN has been re­manded in cus­tody fol­low­ing a cash in tran­sit rob­bery – but po­lice are now hunt­ing for three oth­ers.

Michael Clarke, 23, of Poyn­ton, ap­peared be­fore Stock­port Mag­is­trates on Thurs­day charged with rob­bery.

Mr Clarke, of Shrigley Road North, was de­nied bail and re­manded to ap­pear at Min­shull Street Crown Court on June 4.

He ap­peared in con­nec­tion with a rob­bery at the Co-op, on Chea­dle Road, Chea­dle Hulme, two days ear­lier.

Po­lice in­ves­ti­gat­ing the in­ci­dent are look­ing for three other men.

Of­fi­cers were called to re­ports a cash box had been stolen from two se­cu­rity guards at the su­per­mar­ket at 2.15pm.

The two guards, who work for cash de­liv­er­ers Cardtron­ics UK, were both in­jured in the attack.

Po­lice have ap­pealed for wit­nesses to the in­ci­dent and the af­ter­math as the three men got away.

The Co-op con­firmed that none of its staff or cus­tomers at the store, which re­opened the fol­low­ing day, were in­jured in the in­ci­dent.
