Ken calls for help to solve photo puzzle

A FORMER soldier wants to find out more about a picture he thinks was taken in Macclesfield on VE Day.

The town has just celebrated the 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day - or VE Day - which marked the end of the Second World War and prompted celebrations around the country.

Ken Sparkes, 87, was just 17 and had not long joined the Forces so was not in Macclesfield on VE Day.

A family friend has found a picture which Ken thinks was taken 70 years ago, possibly taken on VE Day.

He thinks it was taken on Mayfield Avenue, the Moss, but would like to find out more about the picture.

Ken, who lives on Harvest Road, Tytherington with wife Barbara, recognises his dad Colin, sister Connie and brother Graham in the picture.

Ken said: “There’s not many of us left now that will remember VE Day but I’d love to hear from anyone who knows anything about this picture.

“It’s got to be 70 years ago and it looks like they could be celebrating VE Day, but I’m not sure why the coach would be there in the picture and would like to find out more.”
