Young driver in appeal after ‘road rage’ incident
A YOUNG woman is appealing for witnesses to a suspected road-rage attack.
Hayley Burgess, 20, claims she was almost run down by an angry motorist.
The alleged attack followed a heated row between her and a man on Bond Street, Macclesfield, on May 7.
Miss Burgess, of Drummond Way, Macclesfield, said she was so shaken by the experience that she forgot to get contact details for two witnesses.
However, she did manage to record the suspect’s vehicle registration number which she has passed to police. They have confirmed they are investigating the incident.
Miss Burgess said she was in her dark blue Ford Ka turning right onto Catherine Street, which leads onto Bond Street, when the other motorist allegedly cut her up.
She said: “I had just been to vote in Broken Cross and was heading to my boyfriend’s on Park Lane. As I took the right, the other motorist came around me and then stopped in front of me.
“He then jumped out of his car and was swearing. He was adamant that I was in the wrong. He was effing and jeffing at me. I was in shock at the abuse. I was shaking.
“He was jumping in and out of his car. I didn’t understand what he was talking about. A woman came over to see if I was okay. While I was talking to her he put his car in reverse and drove towards me. I had to jump out of the way. It was terrifying. I thought he was trying to run me over.
“He then sped off in the opposite direction that he came from. He was obviously trying to get away from the scene.”
Miss Burgess was reassured by a woman, described as in her mid-30s, and the male driver of a bright blue Land Rover.
She is now appealing for witnesses to come forward and corroborate her story.
She said: “During our conversation about what happened, the gentleman in the very distinctive Land Rover said he was looking for Lloyd Street. The woman and I suggested he meant Lord Street. I hope he and the woman who was with me remember.”
The suspect was driving a dark blue Vauxhall Vectra and is described as a man aged 35-45 with olive skin.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “We can confirm that there was an altercation between two motorists on Bond Street Macclesfield at approximately 9pm on May 7.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 905 of 7/5/15.
