Dan the man helps choir change image
A FEMALE choir is scaling up its image after 60 years of singing, with a name change and a new – male – accompanist.
The newly named Macclesfield Mydel Choir has dropped the word ‘Ladies’ from its title to sound a little less traditional.
But despite the appointment of Dan Chappell as the new accompanist, they insist it is very much a femalevoice choir.
The choir has also taken on Aimee Presswood, who has replaced the retired Sheila Kent as musical director.
Viv Warrington, from Macclesfield, and a long standing chorister, said: “We are very excited about our new beginning, and Aimee and Dan are doing a great job.
“It is not easy to keep 30 of us women in check, but Aimee does it very well – and very nicely.
“There are 33 of us singers at the moment but we would like to get the numbers up to 40 again.
“We have 40 outfits and 40 copies of music which need to be used.”
If you would like to join the choir, go along to rehearsals on Tuesday evenings at 7.45pm at Broken Cross Methodist Church.
The choir’s next concert is at Prestbury Methodist Church on Friday, June 26. Go to mydelchoir.co. uk or for tickets call 01625 425760.
