●● THE Tyther­ing­ton Club will wel­come Macclesfield Town cap­tain Paul Turn­bull on Fri­day as he at­tempts a dif­fer­ent kind of hat-trick to raise money for a can­cer char­ity.

‘Bully’ will swap his foot­ball boots for golf shoes to tackle a gru­elling three-course marathon con­sist­ing of 54 holes in 24 hours, along with his friend and manager of the Rail­way Pub in Hand­forth, Ben Quinn.

The pair have man­aged to raise £384 of their £500 tar­get for Can­cer Re­search so far.

They aim to get round 18,273 yards by com­plet­ing 18 holes at Tyther­ing­ton, Macclesfield and Alder­ley Edge golf clubs.

They are set for a very early start at the Tyther­ing­ton club.

Paul said: “It is go­ing to be tough but it will be worth it.

“We tee off at 6am and won’t fin­ish un­til around 8pm.

“All pro­ceeds are go­ing to char­ity to raise as much as pos­si­ble for Can­cer Re­search.

“A lot of peo­ple I know have been af­fected in some way by can­cer, in­clud­ing my fam­ily, there­fore ev­ery do­na­tion – no mat­ter how big or small – goes to mak­ing a huge dif­fer­ence to sav­ing peo­ple’s lives.

“We are very grate­ful for all your sup­port.”

The coun­cil has ap­proved, with con­di­tions, plans for the own­ers of 6 Northgate Av­enue to erect a two storey side ex­ten­sion and sin­gle storey rear ex­ten­sion. The own­ers of 9, Chor­ley­wood Close have been given per­mis­sion by the coun­cil to erect a sin­gle storey rear ex­ten­sion.
