Moss Rose fans come up trumps

MACCLESFIELD Town general manager Robert Stirling has praised Silkmen supporters after more than 500 snapped up their season tickets for the 2015/16 season.

Last weekend saw the end of an early-bird discount phase and there has been a considerable increase in sales.

General manager Robert Stirling said that the response from fans has been very encouraging for the club.

“To have almost a 30 per cent rise in season tickets on the year on year sales is a really positive sign for the club,” he told mtfc. co.uk.

“I think it shows that the people of Macclesfield are buying in to what the club is trying to achieve at the minute.

“We obviously had a really good year on the field last season and that was coupled with a fantastic home record that saw us lose just two games.

“The supporters played a big part in that home record and it looks like they will once again turn out in numbers to support us next season.”

With more than two months left before the start of the season, Stirling is hopeful that the sales will continue to rise before the new campaign kicksoff on August 8th.

“There is, of course, still plenty of time for more people to throw their support behind the club and we would expect to see that happen. We want to see people of all ages down at the Moss Rose next season.”

Season tickets remain on sale from the club and online at www.mtfcdirect. co.uk. Supporters can also purchase season tickets from the Visitor Information Centre at the Town Hall, enabling fans to get their ticket in the town centre.

The club will also be showing off their new kits for the forthcoming season at a special launch evening tomorrow (Thursday) night.

“The new kits from Cabrini are sure to be a big hit with supporters, so we are urging fans to come along to this free evening and make sure they see the new shirt first!”

Also on the evening, there will be a quiz night which will be £10 per team (maximum four people). This will be a mixture of general knowledge and Macclesfield Town trivia.

People can book their team in advance by telephoning 01625 264686 or emailing reception@mtfc. co.uk. Alternatively, teams can turn up on the night.

Macclesfield have also confirmed that they will host neighbours Stockport County in a pre-season game on Friday July 24th.

The game is the third home pre-season game for the Silkmen, with League One sides Rochdale (July 18th) and Bury (July 21st) also set to visit the Moss Rose in a challenging build-up to the new campaign for John Askey and his side.

The Silkmen will also face matches at Kidsgrove Athletic on July 11, along with a trip to Nantwich Town on July 14.

●● Macclesfield Under 14s won their third Cheshire Cup when they beat Wilmslow 24-23 at Wirral. Macclesfield scored three tries through Zak Bowden, Lewis Halliday and Tomasz McNulty while a conversion and two penalties from the reliable boot of Will Davies saw them home. It was a great team performance watched by all the players in the squad, 34 of them in all. The entire squad has made a huge effort during the season and should be very proud.
