Award-winning youth club to close
AN award-winning youth club has announced it is to close.
i-Macc Youth Club, which is based at the Fermain centre on Oxford Road, Macclesfield, was set up three years ago by volunteers to give children something to do.
Despite up to 75 children coming through its doors every week the club has struggled with funding and volunteers.
Doubt have also been raised over how it would co-exist on the same site as the forthcoming free school at the Fermain Centre. Its last session will be Monday, June 8.
Anthony Allen, pictured, is the brainchild behind the venture which won the Community Award at the Macclesfield and Wilmslow Business Awards. He said the decision to fold had come with a heavy heart.
He said: “The three primary elements - space, money, people - which are needed to keep any youth club going are all under severe pressure at i-Macc so the time is right to make this hard decision. We should be proud of everything we did for the young people of Macclesfield. We created a beautiful thing, achieving levels of success we never dreamed possible. But sometimes you have to accept a situation is untenable, you deal with it and you move on.”
