Blow for Silkmen as duo depart
MACCLESFIELD have been dealt a double blow ahead of the new season after Scott Barrow and Rhys Taylor left the Moss Rose to join League Two side Newport County.
The Welsh duo were offered new deals at Macc at the end of the latest campaign but they have decided to make the switch to Rodney Parade to join the League Two outfit managed by former England skipper Terry Butcher.
Both men were ever-presents for the Silkmen during their time at the club, but Barrow revealed he couldn’t turn down the opportunity to join his new team.
“Being a Welsh lad I obviously know a lot about Newport and being given the chance to play in the Football League is a dream come true,” he said.
“It’s good to be closer to home and it will be nice for my family not having to travel four hours to come and watch me play as well.
“Rhys is a great player too and it says it all last year when he kept 20 clean sheets in a season.
“He pulled off some saves that I’ve never seen a goalkeeper make before.
“The Conference is a tough league, but now, in the Football League I’ll be playing in bigger grounds in front of bigger crowds
