Running club gets set for half marathon
A RUNNING club is celebrating helping a new generation of runners achieve their goal.
The Macclesfield Harriers run couch-to-5k courses (C25K) to encourage non-runners to have a go. And with another successful group completion, they are confident more people than ever are capable of running in the forthcoming Macclesfield Half Marathon - or at least its 5k sister event which takes place on the same day.
Neil Gunn, who is volunteer coordinator with the Macclesfield half marathon and has organised the courses, said: “The structured nine week course in a group setting helps the participants to succeed – they have all worked very hard with their weekly homework and I always knew that they would make it. It was a very proud moment for me to see them all run 5k at the local Park run at the end of the course”.
The Macclesfield Half Marathon and 5k takes place on September 27. All proceeds go to good causes, with the East Cheshire Hospice as the main benefactor.
