STAFF and customers at a supermarket came together to spruce up the surrounding area.

The Tesco Community Team from the Hibel Road store were joined by Hurdsfield councillor Steve Carter and customers for a community litter pick.

The group spent hours traipsing along the River Bollin and the surrounding areas collecting rubbish and evidence of fly-tipping.

The result was a collection of 35 bin bags full of rubbish.

Equipment to aid the litter pick, including high-visibility jackets, was provided by Cheshire East Borough Council’s waste department, which collected all the rubbish at the end of the event.

Sheena King, from the Tesco Community Team, praised everyone for their help.

She said: “We would like to thank everybody involved in this successful event.

“We invite anybody interested to take part in our next community litter pick in October.

“Details will soon be posted on Tesco’s in-store community board.”

The tidy-up comes weeks after Cheshire East Council cleared litter on the A523 Silk Road which runs by the Tesco store.
