YOUNG musicians were named top brass after a string of championshipwinning performances.
The youngsters from Macclesfield Youth Brass (MYBB) Band won the inaugural Tameside Youth Championship at the Whit Friday marches which takes place in 20 villages across Tameside and Saddleworth.
More than 70 brass bands from the UK and abroad take part and bands drop in at as many villages as they can to and perform in front of an adjudicator.
Macclesfield Youth won first prize in the youth section at seven of their eight venues.
They fielded a band of 37 young musicians who also won three deportment prizes for their slow marching routine to the theme tune from the TV show Game of Thrones, and featuring members of the MYBB drum corps.
Musical director Louise Renshaw said: “After a final rehearsal on a grassy bank in Tytherington we set off for the hills.
“It was a chilly night but the band maintained spirited and mature performances and we received a warm response from the crowds.”
The band will perform at the next Treacle Market picnic on Sunday, June 28 at St Michael’s Churchyard.
