ACHARITY for adults with learning disabilities is celebrating after being picked as the beneficiary in this year’s North East Cheshire Business Awards.

The Rossendale Trust in Sutton, which provides support to 58 tenants with learning and some physical disabilities, is the chosen charity for this year’s awards which celebrate the best of business in Macclesfield and around.

The recognition follows on from the Trust winning the Community Impact Award at the 2014 business awards.

Sue Heaven, head of PR and fundraising, said: “Being charity of the year is a real honour for the Trust.

“Fundraising makes it possible for us to expand the choices and opportu- nities for our tenants.”

The Trust hopes to use the funds raised for two major projects.

One is the ‘WorkTaste’ project which provides tenants with placements in a variety of businesses and projects in and around Macclesfield. Also, the Trust’s day activity centre ‘Oakwood’ is seeking funds to refurbish and reequip the horticulture service, which helps tenants and adults from the wider community to get to grips with gardening.

Money will be donated from a raffle, prize draw and any other donations made on the night.

Jayne Pickstone, from Macclesfield Chamber of Commerce which runs the awards, said: “There are so many deserving charities which would benefit from the funds and increased awareness from the promotional activities and PR surrounding the awards.

“We are delighted that The Rossendale Trust has been selected based on criteria including the invaluable work they do helping individuals realise their full potential.

“In 2014 they were winners of the Community Impact Award, so it was only fitting they were chosen.

“One of their aims is to raise a greater awareness. This was another reason we decided to make them our charity.”

There are 10 categories in the awards. The closing date for entries is September 30 and the awards culminate in a gala dinner at The Mere on November 19. Entry is free and forms are available via necb awards.co.uk.
