PRESTBURY Flower Club’s June demonstration, ‘anything will do’, was given by Vanessa Wellock from Ilkley.

Her ‘witty’ performance contained advice on conditioning flowers for arrangements – cutting on wood stems not soft green for hydrangeas and buddleias so they take up water.

Lesley Stafford, programme secretary, said: “Her workload over the May bank holiday was a breathtaking 15 weddings but the brides were right to choose her as the roses she brought and displayed were amazing.

“And nothing was thrown away, there must be a floral recycle in there somewhere.”

Vanessa judged the Jessie Kite petite award for arrangements within a nine inch cube.

The winner, with ‘Pot of Gold’ was Margaret Delaney.

The next session is David Robertson’s ‘The Glory of Summer’ on Wednesday, July 1.
