Your views on the new plan

Macclesfield Express - - TOWN CENTRE SPECIAL REPORT -

WHAT you have been saying on our Facebook page about the council’s proposals:

Dave Slater: They now want to sell off the two biggest car parks in the town! If they want to make a difference to Macc, then they should sort out Craven House, the old post office, the Cheshire, the Old King’s Head, the list is endless!

Lisa Lawrenson: Macclesfield town centre is a joke. It’s an absolute disgrace. How the council let this happen and why people objected to the plans is beyond me.

Oh well I’ll just carry on shopping in Wilmslow, Manchester and the Trafford Centre.

Lee Dewar: So the whole idea was to make Macc better, and have more retailers and a cinema and now it’s just leisure! So I bet we don’t get a cinema and the empty buildings already there will be left to rot.

Alex Oppenheim: Good. The plan was preposterous.

John Lawrenson: Macclesfield town centre offers zero to majority of people that live here. If your idea of a great day out includes visiting a plethora of charity shops and budget discount stores then you’re in luck!

Ray Edge: This is exactly the reason I’m going to move out of Macclesfield.

This is what was always going to happen and the new plans will never happen either. Let’s not kid ourselves. Until we have a council with real leaders Macclesfield will go nowhere.

Heather Bamber: I don’t see how it will help retailers. Need to concentrate on empty buildings in the town centre and redevelop existing premises. Simple signage would be a start so people can find the Heritage Centre and Silk Museum. I am always showing customers where to go.

Rachel Tina Hawksey: Everyone is going on about the car parks, but they are all empty so why not build on them? As for leisure then no, Macclesfield needs more retail other than charity shops.

Rebecca Hulme: So will this be another 10 years in the making?!?! .........yawn.

Lou Dempsey: I wouldn’t worry too much, Macc Council has been ‘planning’ to redevelop the town centre for 30 years and what have they done in that time? It’ll still look exactly the same in another 30 years.

Dominique Reiter: The people that vote against redevelopment in Macclesfield are living in the prehistoric age and need to get a grip. Change is good, currently it’s a town of charity shops and takeaways. Why wouldn’t anyone want to invest in the town to create more jobs, opportunities and a better living environment for people old and young?

Lisa Hammond: I am very disappointed that it fell through and the new plans are only for leisure. Macc town centre needs more of the big brand shops. Not everyone can drive or afford bus or train fares to get to Stockport or Manchester. There is never any consideration for people who cannot drive. Bus services out of Macc are terrible, expensive and do not run after 6pm to Stockport.

Keith Preece: Two words....Never....happen.

Mark Midge Mcloughlin: So still nowhere to buy some new boxers. But least I can watch David Beckham advertise his at the cinema.

Graham N Jayne Rayner: Exactly how much of tax payers money has been wasted on the whole ridiculous scheme which has now been scrapped?

Joe Wolverson: And where do you park to visit new leisure facilities? Ok, the old scheme had a hideous car park, but at least they’d thought about it.
