Charity purpose as pipe band strides out for Forces Day
A PIPE band is set to perform to mark Armed Forces Day.
The South Cheshire Pipe Band will be performing in Market Place, Macclesfield on Saturday, June 27. The 12-piece band will also be collecting money for Scotty’s Little Soldiers, a charity that provides opportunities and counselling for children who have lost parents serving in the armed forces.
Steve Parker, a piper in the band, said they’d chosen to support one of the smaller military charities. He added: “Everyone has heard of The British Legion and Help for Heroes, but the work of the smaller military charities is just as important but not as well known. So it’s great to be able to support a charity few people have heard of.”
The band will hold two displays, the first at 11am and the second at 12.15.
Steve added that the band was looking to recruit new pipers and drummers.
“We welcome anyone with open arms.
“You can be an expert or a complete beginner, as long as you can hold the instrument. We have a lot of great musicians here who are more than happy to teach.”
