Inspirational Julia is named a Guiding Idol

Macclesfield Express - - TOWN CENTRE SPECIAL REPORT -

A GIRLGUIDE leader has been recognised as a Guiding Idol.

Julia McCoy, from Elm Drive, Hurdsfield, was one of 10 Cheshire women selected for the honour.

The 56-year-old, who is a Rainbows leader in Sutton, was presented with a ‘Thanks’ badge at a celebration afternoon at the Girlguiding North West regional headquarters in Preston on June 7.

The Guiding Idols were set up last year to recognise inspirational volunteers and a youth panel of girls aged between seven and 14 then selected the 83 winners.

Julia, who has been a Girlguiding volunteer for 38 years, said she was surprised by the nomination. She added: “I felt very happy and a little humbled to be nominated. I love what I do, especially working with Rainbows.

“My volunteer work has led to lifelong friendships and it was great to share experiences with others at the Guiding Idols celebration.”

Julie Bell, regional chief commissioner, said the response to the campaign was fantastic.

She added: “We wanted to thank our volunteers for all the hard work and effort they put into Girlguiding.”
