Dance team break out with first contest win
A SCHOOL break dancing team won a competition at the first time of asking.
The All Hallows Boys’ Break Dance group saw off stiff opposition to win the East Cheshire School Street Dance Competition at Macclesfield Academy.
It was the very first time they had performed.
Year 7 pupil, Tyler Lovatt and Year 9 pupils Kyle Atwood, Thomas Davis and Jack Bushill impressed judges with their routine, which was choreographed by local street dancer Rikki Prince.
It was the first time the school has entered the competition, which is organised by Macclesfield’s Sylk Dance Academy.
The Year 9 boys have all chosen to take dance as an option at GCSE level, according to All Hallows dance subject leader Sarah Mellor.
Miss Miller said the boys had started getting their routine together in January.
She said: “Every Monday night after school we had a street dancer come in for practice sessions.
“The boys also practised on their breaks and lunch times.
“It was great to see it all come together.
“The boys did us proud. They really were exceptional.”
