Dance team break out with first con­test win

A SCHOOL break danc­ing team won a com­pe­ti­tion at the first time of ask­ing.

The All Hal­lows Boys’ Break Dance group saw off stiff op­po­si­tion to win the East Cheshire School Street Dance Com­pe­ti­tion at Mac­cles­field Academy.

It was the very first time they had per­formed.

Year 7 pupil, Tyler Lo­vatt and Year 9 pupils Kyle At­wood, Thomas Davis and Jack Bushill im­pressed judges with their rou­tine, which was chore­ographed by lo­cal street dancer Rikki Prince.

It was the first time the school has en­tered the com­pe­ti­tion, which is or­gan­ised by Mac­cles­field’s Sylk Dance Academy.

The Year 9 boys have all cho­sen to take dance as an op­tion at GCSE level, ac­cord­ing to All Hal­lows dance sub­ject leader Sarah Mel­lor.

Miss Miller said the boys had started get­ting their rou­tine to­gether in Jan­uary.

She said: “Ev­ery Mon­day night af­ter school we had a street dancer come in for prac­tice ses­sions.

“The boys also prac­tised on their breaks and lunch times.

“It was great to see it all come to­gether.

“The boys did us proud. They re­ally were ex­cep­tional.”
