WHAT you have been saying on Facebook: ●● Community leaders say they are ‘optimistic’ about new town centre plans (website, July 19) Toni Kelly: Have to say I feel the complete opposite. Why are the council not addressing the number of vacant premises in the town centre with the possibility of regeneration before inviting companies to bid to build on our car parks?! Pete Watson: I have to agree with Toni as there really aren’t many shops worth going to and if they build on the two carparks where do they envisaged people are going to park to go into the town? Fill the numerous vacant shops before building leisure facilities. Chris Stairmand: Shops won’t be attracted to open in a town with no footflow. Attracting people to use the town centre will drive interest in retailers to come to the town. When these retailers see that there is a leisure facility starting, they’ll sign up. They will not risk it if there isn’t a structured plan to drive interest. Karina Harrington Lovett: Little towns can get it right, ie Leek has a thriving centre and market. You often bump into people from Macclesfield up there. Chris Newton: Option 1 would seem like the best most central location to me, and yes there are a lot of empty shops in Macclesfield at the moment but now the retail part has been dropped that should allow businesses to take on leases now without the uncertainty of a massive regeneration project hanging over them. Daniel Pyatt: This is getting boring now.
Big on ideas, short on answers. ing my breath! Helen Knight: Makes one laugh, councillors talking as though we have something worth saving. Try coming up with a solution that meets the needs of the majority and not the minority and even better take your rose tinted glasses off! Bill Belfield: So where is the £90m going to now. ●● Tree planted to mark victory in the Battle of Waterloo is wished a ‘happy birthday’ 200 years on (website July 19 and page five) Diane Baker: Two telegrams from the Queen?
Happy Birthday, beautiful, from a tree-hugging hippie.
Happy birthday, tree!
