●● THE WELL dressing committee is busy getting ready for this year’s festival.
Bollington Well Dressing Festival involves residents getting together to create pictures using flowers, leaves, grass, feathers and other natural materials to display at wells, water features and other locations around the town.
Bollington has held a festival every summer since 2005,
Sessions to make the decorated panels will take place over three days before mayor Angela Williams declares the wells ready to visit in a ceremony, followed by entertainment by the children from St Gregory’s Primary School who have made the ‘school well’.
The theme this year is anniversaries.
Chris Gosling, leader of Bollington Well Dressers, said: “We are always looking for more volunteers to join our hard-working team to help make the beautiful pictures with which we decorate our town.
“The decorating of the boards is very interesting and anyone can take part. No experience is required and all help is greatly appreciated by the well dressers.
“Help would also be gladly accepted on Friday with the lifting of the boards, which are very heavy.”
The festival takes place from Saturday, July 4 to Sunday, July 12. The preparation of the boards will take place at the Cricket Pavilion Adlington Road, Bollington, from Tuesday, June 30 at 2pm when clay is inserted into the picture boards.
The decoration will take place on Wednesday, July 1 and Thursday, July 2 from 10am until 8pm and on Friday, July 3 from 10am until early afternoon, after which the boards will be put in place around the town.
The opening ceremony will be at the Greg Fountain, at the corner of Flash Lane by the Cock and Pheasant, at 11am on Saturday, July 4.
