AGRANDFATHER who performed sex acts in front of a child branded the young victim a ‘sexual predator’, a court heard.

The court was told Wayne Middleton’s victim was left distressed by the ordeal.

Middleton, 55, of Angus Walk, Macclesfield, denied any wrongdoing until the day of the trial in May, and in fact claimed the victim was at fault.

But Middleton eventually admitted two charges of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child at Chester Crown Court and was jailed for 21 months.

The court heard that Middleton considered the victim a ‘sexual predator’.

Sentencing Middleton Judge Raj Shetty said: “I still don’t know why you put blame on the victim. She was and still is a child, no more, no less.

“Children are vulnerable and must be protected from the sexual interest of adults.

“Everyone should know these boundaries, and you crossed that line twice so seriously that immediate custody is justified.”

The court heard that the tim told her mother the defendant had exposed himself and also showed her an indecent picture on his mobile phone.

Mr Whitty said: “She was described as very upset and was crying.

“She later told police Middleton told her not to tell her mother and gave her money.”

Nicholas Clarke, defending, said until the day of the trial Middleton considered the victim a ‘sexual predator’ and said it was all her fault.

He said: “When presented with the strength of the evidence and conscious that the victim was in the same building, he admitted the offences to prevent her from having to review and rehearse her ordeal.

“It was like he was seeing and hearing himself for the first time.

“He is ashamed of his behaviour. Nothing like this has happened before.

“There is no predilection for young children.

“He has a liberal attitude to sexuality and sexual intercourse.

“He considered her sexually aware and that he could cross that line.”

Middleton was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years and was given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order banning him from any contact with children.
