A FUN and informative group for retired people is holding an open coffee morning to recruit new members.

The Macclesfield Rural U3A for retired and semi-retired people has around 500 members who, in addition to monthly talks at Members’ Mornings, can participate in over 40 interest and activity groups including reading, languages, science and technology, crafts and a range of outdoor activities such as walking and bowls.

They recently enjoyed an entertaining talk from guitarist Neil Smith for the final talk of the group’s 2014/15 programme.

Neil recounted his experiences of playing for celebrities such as the Queen Mother and Elizabeth Taylor, and meeting a partisan war-hero in Greece. His talk was punctuated with appropriate guitar pieces which had many in the audience foot-tapping.

The coffee morning is on Monday, September 7, from 10am until midday at the Salvation Army Hall in Macclesfield.
