More events ahead for £1m Carla fund
THE family of Carla Rankin have revealed details of the latest events to help them raise £1m in her name.
The 27-year-old drowned after having an epileptic fit at home in Prestbury in August last year.
Now her parents Denise and Ian, and her sister Felicity, 26, have pledged to raise £1m for the charity Epilepsy Action to help others suffering from the condition.
The family took on their first event, running in the Manchester 10km run in May, and have more events planned throughout the year.
Mum Denise said: “As you can imagine, the period since Carla’s death has been a very hard time for us, but we have been helped so much by the support. We will never get over losing Carla so suddenly but we are working hard at learning to adjust – and with the fundraising events we have planned – to keep her with us in spirit.
“Carla was a keen supporter of Epilepsy Action, providing help and support for people diagnosed with this disorder, and it also helps families cope with issues that occur or can occur as a result of epilepsy.
“The aim is to support others living with epilepsy. Our goal is to raise £1 million – in the name of Carla who was one in a million.”
A concert by Macclesfield Music Centre, at St Michael’s Church, Market Place, is one of the latest events to take place in aid of the charity.
The next events due to take place are: Prestbury Afternoon Teas at the vil- lage hall on Sunday, August 9. Tea and cake will be sold to benefit Epilepsy Action.
An Eighties night and auction at Prestbury Village Hall on Saturday October 17. The fancy dress event costs £15 and includes a two-course supper. Prizes to be auctioned include a week in Ko Samui in Thailand, jewellery, an executive box at a Manchester United game and a Harvey Nichols experience.
Carla’s Ball, the Diamond Butterfly Ball, is on Saturday, February 6, 2016. The formal event will costs £50 per ticket and will include a raffle. It is being organised by Carla’s friends Sarah Le Sueur and Keke Chai.
