More events ahead for £1m Carla fund

THE fam­ily of Carla Rankin have re­vealed de­tails of the latest events to help them raise £1m in her name.

The 27-year-old drowned af­ter hav­ing an epilep­tic fit at home in Prest­bury in Au­gust last year.

Now her par­ents Denise and Ian, and her sis­ter Felic­ity, 26, have pledged to raise £1m for the char­ity Epilepsy Ac­tion to help oth­ers suf­fer­ing from the con­di­tion.

The fam­ily took on their first event, run­ning in the Manch­ester 10km run in May, and have more events planned through­out the year.

Mum Denise said: “As you can imag­ine, the pe­riod since Carla’s death has been a very hard time for us, but we have been helped so much by the sup­port. We will never get over los­ing Carla so sud­denly but we are work­ing hard at learn­ing to ad­just – and with the fundrais­ing events we have planned – to keep her with us in spirit.

“Carla was a keen sup­porter of Epilepsy Ac­tion, pro­vid­ing help and sup­port for peo­ple di­ag­nosed with this dis­or­der, and it also helps fam­i­lies cope with is­sues that oc­cur or can oc­cur as a re­sult of epilepsy.

“The aim is to sup­port oth­ers liv­ing with epilepsy. Our goal is to raise £1 mil­lion – in the name of Carla who was one in a mil­lion.”

A con­cert by Mac­cles­field Mu­sic Cen­tre, at St Michael’s Church, Mar­ket Place, is one of the latest events to take place in aid of the char­ity.

The next events due to take place are: Prest­bury Af­ter­noon Teas at the vil- lage hall on Sun­day, Au­gust 9. Tea and cake will be sold to ben­e­fit Epilepsy Ac­tion.

An Eight­ies night and auc­tion at Prest­bury Vil­lage Hall on Satur­day Oc­to­ber 17. The fancy dress event costs £15 and in­cludes a two-course supper. Prizes to be auc­tioned in­clude a week in Ko Sa­mui in Thai­land, jew­ellery, an ex­ec­u­tive box at a Manch­ester United game and a Har­vey Ni­chols ex­pe­ri­ence.

Carla’s Ball, the Diamond But­ter­fly Ball, is on Satur­day, Fe­bru­ary 6, 2016. The for­mal event will costs £50 per ticket and will in­clude a raf­fle. It is be­ing or­gan­ised by Carla’s friends Sarah Le Sueur and Keke Chai.
