●● A PARAGLIDER was injured after crashing into a hillside.
The 59-year-old pilot from Bollington suffered ankle injuries when landing near Blue John Cavern in Castleton, Derbyshire on June 12.
He was rescued by Buxton Mountain Rescue Team (BMRT) after a call from the East Midlands Ambulance Service.
A spokesman for BMRT said: “Initial information regarding the location of the incident site was not accurate, but team personnel eventually located the casualty, at Winnats Head.
“Team members and ambulance service paramedics were quickly on scene, treating the casualty for an open fracture of the ankle.
“He was given pain relief and his ankle splinted, then placed on a stretcher and evacuated to a waiting land ambulance at Blue John Cavern and transferred to Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport.”
It is understood that the crash was the pilot’s first in 30 years of flying. ●● ST Gregory’s Primary School will be holding a Pirates and Princessesthemed summer fair on Saturday, July 11.
There will be a visit from Elsa from Frozen, a bouncy castle, assault course, tombola, raffle and auction, children’s games, face painting, tattoos, a barbecue and ice cream.
There will also be live music, street dancing and Irish dancing displays at the event on Albert Road from 2pm to 7pm.
Pirate and princess costumes are encouraged, with prizes for the best. ●● THERE will be a free bike service and fun day in Bollington on July 11.
The event, at Life Church on Hawthorne Road, is from 11am to 3pm.
It will also include a bouncy castle, face painting, balloon modelling, free hot dogs and entertainment.
