●● A PARAGLIDER was in­jured af­ter crash­ing into a hill­side.

The 59-year-old pi­lot from Bolling­ton suf­fered an­kle in­juries when land­ing near Blue John Cav­ern in Castle­ton, Der­byshire on June 12.

He was res­cued by Bux­ton Moun­tain Res­cue Team (BMRT) af­ter a call from the East Mid­lands Am­bu­lance Ser­vice.

A spokesman for BMRT said: “Ini­tial in­for­ma­tion re­gard­ing the lo­ca­tion of the in­ci­dent site was not ac­cu­rate, but team per­son­nel even­tu­ally lo­cated the ca­su­alty, at Win­nats Head.

“Team mem­bers and am­bu­lance ser­vice paramedics were quickly on scene, treat­ing the ca­su­alty for an open frac­ture of the an­kle.

“He was given pain re­lief and his an­kle splinted, then placed on a stretcher and evac­u­ated to a wait­ing land am­bu­lance at Blue John Cav­ern and trans­ferred to Step­ping Hill Hos­pi­tal in Stock­port.”

It is un­der­stood that the crash was the pi­lot’s first in 30 years of fly­ing. ●● ST Gre­gory’s Pri­mary School will be hold­ing a Pi­rates and Princess­es­themed sum­mer fair on Satur­day, July 11.

There will be a visit from Elsa from Frozen, a bouncy castle, as­sault course, tombola, raf­fle and auc­tion, chil­dren’s games, face paint­ing, tat­toos, a bar­be­cue and ice cream.

There will also be live mu­sic, street danc­ing and Ir­ish danc­ing dis­plays at the event on Al­bert Road from 2pm to 7pm.

Pi­rate and princess cos­tumes are en­cour­aged, with prizes for the best. ●● THERE will be a free bike ser­vice and fun day in Bolling­ton on July 11.

The event, at Life Church on Hawthorne Road, is from 11am to 3pm.

It will also in­clude a bouncy castle, face paint­ing, bal­loon mod­el­ling, free hot dogs and en­ter­tain­ment.
