Alan Yentob talks to New York-based author Toni Morrison, who was born into poverty in Ohio, and went on to win acclaim for her novels, including Song of Solomon, Beloved, and God Help the Child. The Nobel Prize-winner’s books, which encompass African American history, but live and breathe in the present, are rich in vivid characters, haunted by ghosts. Contributors include political activist and author Angela Davis, whose biography she edited, and Grammywinning opera singer Jessye Norman.
