Play-off target realistic: Lewis
MACCLESFIELD Town midfielder Paul Lewis insists finishing in the play-offs is a realistic aim this season.
The midfielder has committed his future to the Silkmen for another year after signing a new deal with the club.
He was a key player during the closing stages of last season’s campaign, and he doesn’t see any reason why promotion can’t be achieved.
‘’The aim of course will be to build on last season and hopefully try and make the playoffs,” he said.
“That’s what we all want. The team is great here as we all get on and it’s a great dressing room to be in because we all just want to play football.
“There are still a few more additions to add but with the players we’ve signed already I don’t see why we can’t be up there.
“I’m delighted to sign my contract, I’m just really excited to get playing again. Pre-season matches are just around the corner and it’s not long before the competitive matches begin too.”
Lewis began his career with Premier League side Everton, coming through their youth academy.
He eventually joined the Macclesfield youth system and earned his first senior contract with the club in the summer of 2013.
His emergence into the first team was one of the first things manager John Askey decided on upon his return to the club, and Lewis relishes working with him.
’I’ve been under John now for quite a few seasons, I like how he works and he gives me confidence in myself and that brings out the best of me,” he said.
‘’ Last season I scored four goals but personally I would like to get even more then that this time. If I’m playing well I know I can score a lot more than that and my target is ten goals this season.”
Lewis made 22 appearances for Macclesfield during the 2013/14 season, but a broken collarbone last year hindered his progress.
After a lengthy period on the sidelines, he made his comeback from injury in January, with his performances earning him a call-up to the England C side.
Meanwhile, Macclesfield Town are asking for help in providing accommodation for loan and trialist players.
They are looking for supporters who would be interested in offering players a place to stay in the local area.
