Business boost for town centre

Macclesfield Express - - WILDLIFE -

THE town centre has been given another boost with the arrival of a new estate agents.

Butters John Bee recently opened a new branch on Mill Street.

It is another positive step for the ailing high street and follows on from the opening of PR Jones jewellers in the Market Place and Donald Massey jewellers, which is working on plans for a larger shop in the Market Place as well.

David Rutley, MP for Macclesfield, paid a visit to the Butters John Bee branch.

He was given a tour of the office and talked with branch manager, Stefan Millington, about how successful businesses can play a vital role in helping to revitalise the high street in Macclesfield.

He also discussed the current condition of the property market in Cheshire.

The Mill Street branch is Butters John Bee’s 16th branch, with the business headquarters being based in Stoke-on-Trent, and operating across Cheshire and Staffordshire.

Mr Rutley said the revitalisation of Mill Street remains an essential part of ongoing plans to regenerate Macclesfield town centre.

He said there have been recent positive signs of a growing interest in the town centre.

Earlier this year Elizabeth and Stephen Hirst opened Naturally Different, on Market Place, selling natural, organic and fair trade food and household items as well as gluten free, sugar free and dairy free products.

There are also plans for a new Lidl store at Park Green and fashion retailer White Stuff hopes to open a shop in the town this summer.

The Express also understands that four more retailers – two national names and two others – are interested in leasing empty properties on Chestergate and Mill Street.

Mr Rutley said: “Mill Street is an important part of the town centre, and I am keen to see more businesses locate there in the months ahead. The move demonstrates the potential in the area, and I wish Stefan and his team every success.”
