Tug of war team lost for words as they pay touching tribute

Macclesfield Express - - BOSLEY MILL TRAGEDY -

MEMBERS of a champion tug of war team with an historic connection with the Wood Treatment factory say they have been left in complete shock by the explosion.

The Bosley Wood Treatment Tug of War team was founded after the Second World War in 1947 and the company started sponsoring it in 1957. The members practice on an area of grass at the site.

Teammates have placed a tribute alongside a stone in the village which comemorates the team’s success as world champions in 1975 and 76.

Alan Knott, secretary, said: “It was a complete shock. Wood treatment is a big part of our history and we’re lost for words.

“They sponsor our team and our training facilities are on the premises but none of our team members were on site at the time.

“The main priority is to allow the emergency services to get on with their job and to make sure those still missing are accounted for.

“Our thoughts are with everyone in Bosley.”
