Leah puts the hospice centre stage
FROM a life of treading the boards to a packed timetable of events, the newest recruit at East Cheshire Hospice has had anything but a quiet life.
Leah Goodhind from Rainow has just taken up her new position as community fundraising officer at the charity and is excited to be planning a host of activities that will generate income for the Macclesfield hospice.
Leah trained in musical theatre at the Guildford School of Acting – whose alumni includes Bill Nighy, Michael Ball and Brenda Blethyn.
While living in Guildford, Leah also spent time teaching young people singing, dancing and drama.
And it’s these skills which she thinks will come in useful in her new role.
“I’m really looking forward to working with schools,” says 27-year-old Leah, “Talking to young people about our work here is so important.
“There was a time in my life when I thought nothing could ever replace music and performing, but I’m loving working with the hospice and getting out in the community and meeting everyone who supports us”
eah still manages to put on a good show as she continues a weekend job of entertaining young children at parties by dressing up as Elsa from the film Frozen.
“It’s amazing how popular that film role is with children and it gives me a chance to put my training to good use,” she says.
And she hasn’t lost touch with the world of musical theatre.
Her partner, Will Breckin, has had major roles in West End shows such as Dirty Dancing and Charlotte’s Web.
Leah has been working at the hospice since March, initially in the Supporter Care Team, and says she is surrounded by ‘totally inspiring’ people.
