●● A WEEK­END of events will celebrate the 175th an­niver­sary of Sut­ton St James Church.

The church was built in 1840 and church history and doc­u­ments from over the years will be dis­played in the church hall this week­end.

On Satur­day, there is a gift day and open church event from 9.30am and a fam­ily fun event and af­ter­noon tea from 2pm to 4pm.

In the evening there will be a Midsummer Fam­ily Ceilidh in the scout hut, from 7pm to 10pm.

Ad­mis­sion is by ticket only, with re­fresh­ments and drinks in­cluded.

On Sun­day, at 11am, there will be a ser­vice of cel­e­bra­tion and thanks­giv­ing for fam­i­lies and friends and Choral Even­song at 6.30pm.

●● A PARISH gar­den­ing group is look­ing for ideas for new projects around Langley.

The Parish Plan gar­den­ing group has been work­ing on com­mu­nity plots af­ter iden­ti­fy­ing plant­ing as a pri­or­ity for res­i­dents in the parish plan sur­vey.

The group is main­tain­ing five sites around Lyme Green and Sut­ton.

Now the next pro­ject is Langley and the group is look­ing for ideas from res­i­dents about ar­eas to be used. They have sug­gested that Brighton Cres­cent or Tegsnose Mount could be pos­si­ble lo­ca­tions.

Any pro­ject sub­mit­ted will be sub­ject to con­sul­ta­tion with nearby res­i­dents.

The group held a plant swap at The Plea­sance and hopes to re­peat it, with money raised to be used for the com­mu­nity gar­dens.
