LAST week I listed some lu­di­crously ex­pen­sive wines avail­able at Rosso the Ital­ian res­tau­rant on King Street in Manch­ester City Cen­tre.

Pleas­ingly, this week I can re­port that, just a few doors down there are some fine wines avail­able at lu­dri­cously in­ex­pen­sive prices.

The wines are both made by pro­duc­ers Mount Pleas­ant from the Semil­lon grape in Aus­tralia, namely the Hunter Val­ley.

Hunter Val­ley Semil­lon is one of the world’s great­est and most dis­tinc­tive wines.

It’s an un­likely place for wine-grow­ing with a cli­mate that is not far off sub-trop­i­cal.

When I trav­elled there it was very no­tice­able that the heat was tem­pered by preva­lent cloud cover,
