Danny’s delight at new contract
MACCLESFIELD Town midfielder Danny Whitaker insists he had no intention of ever leaving the club after signing a new deal last week.
After a long affair, the 34-year-old finally put pen to paper on a one-year-deal to stay at the Moss Rose.
He is one of the Silkmen’s most experienced players, and he admits his love for the club made his decision to stay an easy one.
“I’ve been back a couple of years and the club is on my doorstep, I get on with the manager and I like how he wants the team to play and it suits me all round,” he said.
“It’s good to get it all sorted, it’s been in the pipeline for a good few weeks to say the least and I knew pretty much from the start I would sign again.”
Whitaker has been an ever-present in the Macclesfield team throughout preseason, playing in every friendly so far.
With that in mind, the midfielder is happy with how preparations are going ahead of the new campaign.
“I have done quite a bit of work on my own in the off season and I’m feeling the benefit of that so far,” he said.
“We’ve done well so far during preseason. We have created a few chances and now it is just a little match fitness in the final third that we need.”
