Brawl breaks up dream wedding
ACOUPLE whose wedd ing descended into carnage after police were called have been left ‘heartbroken’ at having their dream day ruined.
Police officers were injured trying to break up a fight at the Hollin Hall Country House Hotel in Kerridge, Macclesfield, on Sunday.
Up to 10 police cars and a riot van were sent to tackle the fight on the driveway of the historic hall.
Bride Melanie Harrison, 32, and groom Anthony Dingle, from Macclesfield, are said to be ‘devastated’.
It is understood Anthony and mum-of-three Melanie, who is five months pregnant, had saved for more than a year to hire the Grade II-listed venue for 70 guests.
The couple had not long finished their wedding breakfast when the scene unfolded outside at around 5pm.
The 15 children at the wedding were taken to a back room away from the fight. Officers were eventually forced to shut down the evening do for fears of more trouble, meaning the newlyweds did not get to have their first dance.
Anthony’s mum Beverly Dingle, from Bollington, said: “It had been a dream of a day. The ceremony, the speeches and the meal, were perfect.
“The staff at Hollin Hall were very professional. But then something happened and the whole do was ruined. They didn’t even get to have their first dance. It’s devastating for them. They are heartbroken.
“A huge concern to us is that Melanie is five months pregnant and this has been very stressful. It’s very raw still. Some of the family are talking about putting some money together and organising something for Anthony and Melanie. And I can tell you certain people won’t be invited for obvious reasons.”
Kris Clayton, owner of the hotel, said it was the first time a wedding had been stopped since he bought the venue seven years ago.
He added: “It’s very sad for the bride and groom.”
