Co-op targeted in ram raid

Macclesfield Express - - FRONT PAGE -

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an attempted ram raid.

The incident happened at 4am yesterday (August 4) at the Co-operative Food store on London Road, Macclesfield.

It is believed that a vehicle was used to try and gain access to the rear of the shop via the customer car park.

The shop was temporarily closed while police investigated and a large part of the rear of the building was boarded up.

A spokesperson for Co-op said: “There was an incident in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday, 4 August) at around 4am. A vehicle has damaged the rear of The Co-operative’s London Road, Macclesfield store. The store has re-opened, and we would like to apologise to our customers for any inconvenience while it was temporarily closed to allow the Police to investigate.”

Anyone who witnesses the incident, or who may have seen the vehicle, is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101.

Alternatively, call the charity Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.
