TRIBUTES have been paid to a ‘much loved’ councillor and dog breeder who has died, aged 34.

Isabel ThorntonMaddocks had served on Poynton Town Council since 2012 representing Poynton West ward.

She was a trained solicitor but had given up legal practice to become her husband Carl’s office manager.

Her passion was breeding and showing cocker spaniels.

Mrs ThorntonMaddocks, of Park Lane, Poynton, had overcome cancer last year but became ill again shortly after her re-election to the town council in May. She died on July 17. Her funeral took place at St George’s Poynton Parish Church on July 31.

A Just Giving page has now been set up in Mrs Thornton-Maddocks’ memory, raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support which looked after her during her treatment.

Paying tribute to her, Jo Sewart, chairman of Poynton Conservatives said: “Isabel was a much loved and respected young woman who has died far too early in her life’s journey.

“She bore her recent illness with fortitude and lack of self pity.

“She will be missed by all who knew and cared for her.

“We offer our sympathy and prayers to her husband, family and friends. Isabel will remain long in our thoughts.”

Poynton’s Mayor, Rebecca HorsmanJohnson, said Isabel was ‘a delight to work with’.

She added: “Her care for the residents she represented and her dedication to public service shone through.

“She was always well prepared and was willing to do the unglamorous background research that helps convince others.

“She was particularly active on planning issues.

“On many occasions her training as a solicitor was of particular value to the council.”

Mrs ThorntonMaddocks grew up in Marple and attended Manchester University and then Chester Law School.

Seeking a better work-life balance, she gave up law to focus on her breeding business Brookthorne Cocker Spaniels.

On her website she said: “I have had dogs all my life, with my passion for man’s best friend being ignited by my first family dog decades ago – my huge, lovable chocolate Labrador.

“This gentle giant and I soon became the very best of friends. I am now a full-time cocker spaniel enthusiast, some may say fanatic.”

Mrs ThorntonMaddocks was a friend and colleague of Phil Hoyland, who served on Cheshire East Council and Poynton Town Council and died in March, aged 60.
