History lec­tures will re­mem­ber bru­tal WW1 cam­paign

THE TOWN is pre­par­ing for a week­end of re­mem­brance to mark a key bat­tle in the First World War.

Men from the 7th Cheshire reg­i­ment took part in the Gal­lipoli land­ings on Au­gust 9 1915, and at least 65 Mac­cles­field sol­diers were killed dur­ing the cam­paign.

On Satur­day, Au­gust 15, Mac­cles­field Town Hall will host a se­ries of lec­tures or­gan­ised by Mac­cles­field Re­flects, a group set up to share the sto­ries of the lo­cal peo­ple around the First World War.

The Assem­bly room will host four lec­tures, while the Coun­cil Cham­ber will host two.

There will also be ex­hi­bi­tions and peo­ple are in­vited to bring their own World War One sto­ries and mem­o­ra­bilia and photos for the group to take a look at.

And on Sun­day, Au­gust 16, there will be a 1pm Ser­vice of Re­mem­brance at St Michael’s Church fol­lowed by the lay­ing of a wreath at Park Green War Me­mo­rial.

Tick­ets to the lec­tures in the Assem­bly room cost £8 in ad­vance and £10 on the day. The ex­hi­bi­tions and lec­tures in the Coun­cil Cham­ber are free.
