History lectures will remember brutal WW1 campaign
THE TOWN is preparing for a weekend of remembrance to mark a key battle in the First World War.
Men from the 7th Cheshire regiment took part in the Gallipoli landings on August 9 1915, and at least 65 Macclesfield soldiers were killed during the campaign.
On Saturday, August 15, Macclesfield Town Hall will host a series of lectures organised by Macclesfield Reflects, a group set up to share the stories of the local people around the First World War.
The Assembly room will host four lectures, while the Council Chamber will host two.
There will also be exhibitions and people are invited to bring their own World War One stories and memorabilia and photos for the group to take a look at.
And on Sunday, August 16, there will be a 1pm Service of Remembrance at St Michael’s Church followed by the laying of a wreath at Park Green War Memorial.
Tickets to the lectures in the Assembly room cost £8 in advance and £10 on the day. The exhibitions and lectures in the Council Chamber are free.
To book your place at the lectures either pick up a leaflet at the Tourist Information centre or go online to www.macclesfieldreflects.org.uk.
