STUDENTS put their best feet forward in a bid to buy a new minibus for their school.

Poynton High School pupils took part in sponsored walk, travelling from the school on Yew Tree Lane to Lume Park in Disley and back again.

The distance covered by the group of 1,000 students in the Whole School Sponsored Walk event was eight miles.

Among those stepping out for the school were Year eight students Max Sellers, Evie Clare, Amelia Bartlett, Maisie Leonard and Ella Sutton.

Through collections and sponsorship the school looks to have raised more than £3,000.

But that sum is expected to rise as sponsorship and donations are still being collected by students.

David Waugh, headteacher at Poynton High School, said the event was an example of the wider engagement and celebratory traditions of the school.

He said: “A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising this.

“It was a Herculean effort to marshal over 1,000 teenagers around our local community.

“On a glorious, sunny day, students walked an impressive eight miles from their school on Yew Tree Lane to Lyme Park and back again, hopefully raising money to help purchase a new school minibus.”
