●● PIE-LOVERS are in for a treat af­ter a com­pany got plan­ning ap­proval to open a new cafe.

Lord of the Pies is to take over a prime spot on Ch­ester­gate which used to be a gift shop.

It was re­cently given plan­ning per­mis­sion to change the use from re­tail to a cafe.

Lord of the Pies makes tra­di­tional and mod­ern Bri­tish hand­made gourmet pies. It also has a shop in Stock­port.

The com­pany has also ap­plied for a premises li­cence to sell al­co­hol from 12pm to 11pm Mon­day to Thurs­day, 10.30am to 11pm Fri­day and Satur­day, and Sun­day 10.30am to 10.30pm. ●● PLANS have been sub­mit­ted to build a new car park on the As­traZeneca site.

The scheme aims to pro­vide park­ing for 283 cars.

The site in­cludes an area which used to house a staff res­tau­rant, now de­mol­ished.

The rest of the site is green open space.

The scheme also in­cludes five elec­tric car-charg­ing ports. ●● A POP­U­LAR cafe and bar has been awarded a cer­tifi­cate of ex­cel­lence from travel re­view web­site Trip Ad­vi­sor.

The Trea­cle Tap on Sun­der­land Street was given the award, which cel­e­brates ex­cel­lence in hos­pi­tal­ity and is given only to es­tab­lish­ments that con­sis­tently achieve great re­views.
