Shop window ad opened new door
Name / which organisation are you involved with?: John Allen. Age UK Cheshire East Men in Sheds. How did you become a volunteer?: I saw an advert poster in a shop window in Macc, it was local and appeared interesting. Since volunteering on Wednesday afternoons my initial thoughts have been proved right and I’ve become involved in other Age UK areas. What do you enjoy most about your role there?: Meeting the men and the conversation. Where is your favourite place in Macclesfield?: The Monocle Deli café. Ideally how would you spend every day?: Doing what I am doing now: being with my wife, Lindsay, volunteering, exercise, and working with my computer. What was the best holiday you have been on?: Going to Whitby. A very close second is cycling along the Tissington Trail. Third are all the others: Venice, Sydney, San Francisco, Malta etc. If money were no object what would you do?: Lots of money is not important to me. What one piece of advice would you give?: Always look for the good in something. What was your first job?: Shipping clerk. What is on your CD / MP3 player?: CD: the Beatles, the Eagles, Dire Straits, 10cc, Air Guitar, the Animals – any soft rock. What is your favourite TV show?: Have I got News for you! What are you reading at the moment?: Don’t read books. I read postings and comments on Facebook. If I read, it’s a newspaper such as The Guardian or The Independent. What is your biggest inspiration?: My wife. Who would you like to invite to dinner?: All my friends and family. Children’s Craft Activity: City Scapes. Where / when is it?: Thursday, August 6, and Friday, August 7, at The Silk Museum on Park Lane. What does it involve?: Making 3D city skylines from all sorts of materials.
