CHESHIRE League side FC Woodford have revealed they will be known as AFC Macclesfield from now on.

The FA Charter Standard Club have achieved a large amount of success in recent years, having won the East Cheshire League in 2013 and the Altrincham & District League in 2014.

Despite the achievements, secretary Bob Haslam felt changing the team’s name was a necessary thing to do.

“It was a big decision by the club to change its name but we feel that for our club to progress and move forward, the change can only be beneficial,” he said.

“We now believe our new name reflects the clubs ambition, its player/training base and its status as the highest-ranked amateur adult club in Macclesfield.

“For the 2015/16 season, we will again be playing at Stockport Sports Village, but we see this as only a temporary measure until we secure our new ground in Macclesfield.

“The Cheshire League are proposing an under 21 league for the 2016/17 season and we see this as something our club could be involved with.

“It can also an opportunity for our club to encourage and help younger players to progress into adult football with a Charter Standard club.”
