Langley frustrated by Wirral fight
LANGLEY CC DAVID FRAME
LANGLEY’S first XI entertained Wirral at the weekend and after a promising start they were thwarted by a stubborn fightback and ultimately the rain.
Wirral elected to bat on a damp wicket and wet outfield.
Betteridge and Frame bowled well, only 13 runs were scored off the first eight overs.
Betteridge then had Clewes caught behind for six. The score reached 27 when Frame bowled Muise for two.
Frame claimed a second wicket trapping Jones on 17 for LBW and was unlucky not to trap Kumar first ball in similar fashion.
Kumar’s luck ran out in the next over when he was caught and bowled by Betteridge with the Wirral side wobbling on 35-4.
Langley then selfdestructed, dropping several catches, which Wirral took advantage of. Develing and O’Connell pushed the score to 88 before Turner bowled the former for 23.
As the rain began to fall, so did Langley’s performance. O’Connell (44no) and Henwood (53no) pushed the score to 172-5 off just 40 overs before the rain forced the game to be cancelled.
Langley travel to leaders Portsunlight this weekend.
