Aspiring playwright heads to festival
A YOUNG playwright is hoping to take her play about human trafficking to the world famous Edinburgh Festival.
Former King’s student Samantha O’Rourke, 24, has written the play ‘The Dolphin Hotel’, influenced by Alan Ayckbourn’s trilogy ‘The Norman Conquests’.
She is hoping to take the play to the festival with her theatre company The Thread, which she set up with fellow actors after graduating from Loughborough University.
The group has already had a taste of success at the festival after taking their show ‘Much Ado about Zombies’ there last year.
Now they have four more plays they would like to return with and are looking for funding to help them on their way.
Samantha said: “Thread theatre is all about producing fresh takes on established plays, alongside new writing.
“We hope that by showing people something they’re familiar with they will enjoy it and want to see our new writing too.”
The team has already raised £2,400 but more support is needed to help them with transport and accommodation costs.
