Danny: We won’t dwell on defeat

Macclesfield Express - - SPORT - SHELDAN KEAY

MACCLESFIELD Town midfielder Danny Whitaker admits he missed a golden opportunity to earn his team victory during Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Torquay United.

The 34-year-old had been in decent goal-scoring form during pre-season, including a strike against Congleton Town earlier this month. He couldn’t find the back of the net against the Gulls last weekend though, and was disappointed with how things unfolded.

“Maybe I’m a bit harsh on myself but I should have done better with the one-on-one chance I had,” he said.

“In football you have to take your chances and when you don’t take them then it comes back to bite you.

“It’s not the result that we wanted but there were positives to take out of the match as I thought we played some good stuff in the first half.

“We deserved to lead the game but it wasn’t to be and we went home without any points.

“We’ve just got to forget about what went on against Torquay very quickly and move on to the next game.”

Whitaker has made over 250 appearances for Macclesfield during his two spells at the Moss Rose and scored six goals in his 29 appearances last season.
